1. What is an Addressable COB LED Strip?
There are two core components: COB and Addressable.
The COB Advantage
Traditional LED strips (SMD led ribbon) feature individual LED “chips” soldered onto a circuit board
This often produce a “string of pearls” effect where you see bright dots of light. it will be separated by dark gaps.
COB (Chip-on-Board) technology changes this.the hundreds of tiny LED diodes (led chips) directly solder onto the flexible PCB (Printed Circuit Board).
These chips are covered by a continuous layer of phosphor gel. This is very smooth, no spot of lights that looks like a neon tube.
The Power of Addressability
A standard COB strip changes color like red, blue, green,yellow,warm white or white. An Addressable COB strip includes tiny IC chips (like the WS2811, WS2812B, or SK6812).
These ICs allow a controller to send data to specific pixels along the strip and then mix the different color.
With an addressable COB strip, you can have a rainbow chasing effect, at the beginning of the strip is red, the middle is green, and the end is blue, all running in a fluid motion.

Technical Specifications
IC Chip Types
The IC determines how the strip communicate to your controller. Common types include:
WS2811: it is 12V or 24V strips. Often controls groups of LEDs (e.g., 12v 1 pixel = 3 or 24v 1 pixel =6 LEDs) but not every single diode.
WS2812B : Common on 5V strips. These allow to control individual every leds, meaning every single LEDS can be a different color.
WS2815 : Typically found on 12V or 24v strip but can control every leds ,it is individual addressability and breakpoin function
Density (LEDs per Meter)
COB strips are famous for high density. but SMD strips usually have 30, 60, 72, 84, 96, 120 or 144 LEDs per meter,
COB strips often feature 480leds/m ,576/leds,720leds/m and more t. Higher density means a smoother lighting
Voltage: 5V vs. 12V vs. 24V
5V: the small DIY projects (like PC cases) it will be voltage drop. If the strip is longer than 2-3 meters, the end is not brightness.but you can connect with power supply on the double end.
12V/24V:it is architectural or room-scale lighting. They can run longer distances (5–10 meters) .
